Hi girls!
Before starting with the review, I would like to take a few seconds to tell you how happy you all make me. I have had so many nice comments in the last 2 days! If I had to pick my favorite thing about blogging I wouldn't hesitate one bit : your acknowledgment as readers.
Thank you all ♥
I still have a few surprises up my sleeve for the upcoming weeks but in the meanwhile, if you haven't entered my blogaversary giveaway, please do! (click here)
So... today I have decided to split the review sightly differently from usual :
I present to you OPI Spring Summer 2012 Holland Collection, the cremes!

A Roll In The Hague is a very bright and saturated "true" orange. I couldn't imagine a Holland collection without a perfect Koninginnedag (Queen's Day) shade and I'm glad OPI didn't skip it. I'm beginning to like orange more and more every day. Formula was really amazing, kind of on the thin side but good thin, very even and easy to work with. Almost a one coater.
Red Lights Ahead…Where? isn't your usual red creme. It's not the most original red of course and to be honest I didn't have it in me to go on the look out for dupes in my stash but I would say that OPI On Collins Avenue would be an almost perfect dupe, some coral hints and a little dusty look, but not formula wise, Red Lights Ahead... Where? is much more opaque and a true 2 coater. Squishy looking and super glossy.
Kiss Me On My Tulips is everything you could ask for from a hot pink. Medium toned and blue based, it's a very bold shade of pink, girly in a good way. In terms of formula, it was pretty much the ame as A Roll in the Hague, even and almost a one coater.
Did You ‘ear About Van Gogh? Now we're talking! I don't think I have anything like this in my collection. You could call it nude, tan, sand, maybe even ecru. Such a versatile color, one of those that will look completely different depending on your skintone or even your outfit. I'm not completely satisfied with these swatches, I think it looks a bit darker in the bottle, but again versatile color... This is how it looks on me. I also included a swatch next to OPI Skull and Glossbones from th Pirates of the Caribbean collection but Did You 'ear About Van Gogh? is so much warmer, a sort of very light taupe or café au lait. I was also very surprised by how well it applied, 2 easy even coats here. I really love it.
Thanks a Windmillion is without a doubt my favorite of these cremes. I could go on raving on how amazing I think it is but I believe the pictures speak for themselves so I'll keep it simple : it's very similar to Mermaids Tears but deliciously dustier and a tad darker. Again, a very versatile color and your skintone or the ambient lighting will strongly affect how it looks on you. Formula wise, this was unexpectingly manageable again, applying easily in 2 coats. Ok, sorry, I can't help it, I looove it so much!!!
Overall :
I hope you're not too disappointed in me presenting the "boring" creme part of the Holland Collection first... But isn't creme the most popular finish? Sometimes I think I need to force myself into taking some perspective and looking at nail polishes from a more "muggle" point of view...
Anyway, I truly like all of the nps of this review, be it only for their formula regarding the "dupable" red and pink. Of course I am totally in love with Did You ‘ear About Van Gogh? and Thanks a Windmillion but that's no surprise.
Oh and before I forget : how ridiculously amazing are the names in this collection? So funny and thought through! Thumbs up!
*these products were provided to me by the manufacturer or their PR company*
I really want Thanks a Windmillion... nothing else really calls my attention, sadly.
ReplyDeleteThese all look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWow, lady, you're SO fast with some collections, and your swatches are always so beautiful! Surprisingly though the only one I really like is the orange one. The last two are lovely, but they remind me too much on the two colours from POTC collection for me to want them. But the orange one is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh my I need Kiss Me On My Tulips (HAHA I always want to type something else xD ). And I really like Did You ‘ear About Van Gogh? :) These 2 are my favorites for now but I can't wait to see others. Gorgeous and clear swatches, I'm always amazed with your photos, I could stare at them all the time. <<3
ReplyDeleteWow all those look stunning! I love the cremelly consistency, so squishy!!!
ReplyDeleteI think the only one I'm not fond of is Red Lights Ahead... Where? I really dislike the name of that one too, it just doesn't make sense to me. I guess OPI had to include a red, but I would have loved to see something else, something more unusual. I love Thanks a Windmillion and Did You 'ear About Van Gogh?, those have to be my favorites. A Roll in the Hague looks pretty nice too.
ReplyDeleteEven though this is the tamer part they are still all GORG!
ReplyDeleteI love this collection! The colours are lovely. Just look at that pink! The orange is imho the right shade of orange. That is really dutch, football, queensday orange. I want them all so bad! My wallet won't allow me though. I'm really looking forward to part II of the swatches, so I can pick the prettiest ones.
ReplyDeleteI just love A RollIn The Hague!
ReplyDeleteI will be picking up not one but two bottles of did you 'ear about Van Gough!
ReplyDeleteLovely lovely shade and so versatile (like you said)
Your nails are beautiful. Pretty colors
ReplyDeleteKisses
Tata-nadaver
Pretty sure that.. after seeing these swatches, I want them all!
ReplyDeleteAwesome swatches! Can't wait for Van Gogh and Tulips in particular. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteThey're so pretty and cheerful! Not boring at all. Thanks for the preview, Sam! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI haven't bought an OPI in a while, but I'm blown away these colors. They're so bright and optimistic. If anything I'd have to get the Van Gogh, if only for the name
ReplyDeletethey are not boring! I love all these colors! Holland Collection is going to break another hole in my pocket!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! I like this half way more than I thought I would.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to put Thanks a Windmillion, Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh (I LOVE this name), and A Roll in the Hague on my list.
I am very happy with this collection so far, I think I like this best out of the recent OPI releases! My favorite of these is definitely Thanks A Windmillion.
ReplyDeleteI had been wondering how those two would compare to the pirates colours- thank you so much for covering that! I'm really excited for all of these. :)
ReplyDeleteThis are GORGEOUS! I cannot wait to see the second half. Great pictures :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for these absolutely gorgeous swatches. Most of these will be mine when the collection comes out!!!
ReplyDeleteNice to see you mention Koninginnedag, wich is definately one of the most fun days of the year!
Greetings from Holland :-D
Your swatches are always so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the last one. It's gorgeous. I love that the creams look like a tulip field with a windmill in the center (well, at least, that's what the colors remind me of. Green for the tulip's leaves and stems. Orange and pink for the tulips and tan for the windmill. Holland is known for their windmills and their tulip fields, after all.)
the bottle pics weren't really getting my excited, but after seeing your gorgeous swatches, I want them all! I was going to get them all anyway since I live in the Netherlands :), but now I think I'm actually going to wear them. :D
ReplyDeleteI am not sure why, but I most own every hot pink in existence...adding this to e list. I think I'm in love with that red, too! Great photos, as always.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a very nice collection!
ReplyDeleteMiss Starshiny
I love them ALL. I'm a pink girl, so I'm partial to kiss me on my tulips, but I may have a spending problem when it comes to this collection, lol.
ReplyDeleteAs always, thanks for sharing. Can't wait for the next post ;0)
@S.N.
ReplyDeleteS.N. I think Red Lights Ahead is a reference to the Red Light District in Amsterdam. 'Red Lights Ahead…Where? This coral-packed red is the hottest in the district'
Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteI will buy definitely some polishes from this collection. Besides creme polishes aren't boring to me at all - I love them :)
I just have to say that I'm drooling...over how beautiful the polishes are and what good work you do!!!! I can never get the base of my nail/cuticle to look anywhere NEAR that good!
ReplyDeletethanks god i can skip this collection.. look so boring just like the texas collection
ReplyDeletebut i love you nails :)
thanks for sharing
I will be purchasing this entire collection, well at least four of the five polishes I see above. I'm not that crazy about Did You ‘ear About Van Gogh?, but the rest are LOVELY!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with your swatches, as usual :)
ReplyDeleteDid You ‘ear About Van Gogh is the one I'm really looking forward to... I hope the second part is more unique.
Thanks for sharing!!
Any chance you have OPI a good man-Darin is hard to find? Cluld you tell me how similar it looks to OPI a roll in the Hague? Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteNow these are some gorgeous cremes! And since it's the collection for my country I'll need them all <3.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, A roll in the Hague and Kiss me on my Tulips look gorgeous!! I am definitely going to get those. Thanks for the lovely swatches!
ReplyDeleteI really need to get me a good orange polish since I own NONE-Am really loving this one
ReplyDeleteDEFINITELY getting Tulips. I have a thing for hot pink lately lol I like some of the others, so I don't know...maybe if I can find a set of all of them for a good price I'll just get the ones I'm meh about.
ReplyDeleteStranger Tides isn't a similar one? Or does it have more green in it? That was what I was thinking of--but good comparisons!
♥ Kiss Me On My Tulips and the Van Gogh-one... :)
ReplyDeleteIf I get any of the cremes, it will be Red Lights Ahead... Where? A beautiful colour and will look awesome in spring/summer.
ReplyDeleteI too need to look at nail polish collections from a more "muggle" point of view. :) Thanks a Windmillion is my favorite. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI have been lemming Nars Schiap for a while now, I wonder if the Tulips hot pink is at all close?
ReplyDeleteI want A Roll In The Hague! It looks so yummy! But I'm kinda sad about how Thanks a Windmillion and Did You ‘ear About Van Gogh? are so close to the two from POTC collection. Now I need reasons to justify getting them.
ReplyDeleteHi Sam, awesoeme swatches as always! When you'll have the time, can you please make a quick comparison of Red Lights Ahead and Opi on Collins Ave, like you said?? I absolutely adore Opi On Collins Ave, but I always struggle with the coverage! Thanks :D
ReplyDeleteYou have the most fabulous looking nails I've ever seen! What's your secret?
ReplyDeleteAlso, these colors are so great. I love a good creme!
After seeing these beautiful swatches I have to get Thanks a WindMillion! ITS BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your swatches! First OPI collection in a while that I've been excited to see!
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking time to take such beautiful photos/beautiful swatches of collections! You are one of the bloggers I wait for every time a new collex. comes out so I can decide on what to buy. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful!!! Such fresh, lovely colors! I am going to end up buying this entire collection! :D
ReplyDeleteI really like Thanks a Windmillion, but I'm worried it's too close to Damon Roberts 1968?
ReplyDeleteThe quality of your swatches is amazing! Very beautiful photos. I luv the orange one, i can't wait to get it! :)
ReplyDeleteThese aren't special to me (creme isn't MY thing) but shimmers are completely different story
ReplyDeleteI don't think that I will grab any of these. Maybe Hague and Van Gogh - yes, names can make me weak :D
ReplyDeleteLove your review, these all seem lovely. Especially the last green one
ReplyDeleteVan Gogh looks so odd yet awesome... is it weird that the strange colors really call to me?! Haha. I never really checked out skull and glossbones before either and now I think I need it, too!
ReplyDeleteI'm SO looking forward to this collection! I'd like to ask you if and how you would compare "A Roll in the Hague" to Dior Aloha.
ReplyDeleteLove from Italy!
Irene.
I usually don't like orange, but that is a good one!
ReplyDeleteThanks a Windmillion is much prettier than Mermaid tears, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteIm so jealous you were able to get these early.
ReplyDeleteThe warm bright shades are sooo pretty !!! <3 I need them in my life :P
ReplyDeleteOh my! I just cannot for these gorgeous colours <3
ReplyDeleteOh so late to this blog. Your pics are gorgeous. I just started buying nail polish again after years of wearing hardly nothing. Oh and Red Lights Ahead...Where is a reference to the famous Red Light District in Amsterdam where the ladies of the night pose in windows for customers to see what they are getting. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI love your images, thanks to them I know exactly which colors to get
ReplyDeletemay I ask what camera you use, these pictures are stunning :) as well as the polish!
ReplyDelete@Saraww Thank you! I use a panasonic lumix zs7. Hope this helps! xoxo
